An 1897 villa, just as it was.

In the late nineteenth century Bordighera was the town of the English: pastel villas, palm gardens and winters in the sun.

Villa Le Persiane was built in those years. Today it has fourteen rooms, painted ceilings, patterned tile floors and, at every window, its green shutters.

Garden Room

Ground floor, private garden, 24 m²

The French door opens onto the lemon trees. Limewashed walls, old terracotta and the shade of the palms.

Second floor, balcony over the sea, 28 m²

The bed faces the window, the window faces the sea. Linen curtains and pink and green tiles.

Belle Époque Suite

First floor, sitting room and painted ceiling, 52 m²

The oldest room in the villa: green velvet, a crystal chandelier and light falling through the shutters.

Warm cornetti, fruit from the Bordighera market and focaccia from the village bakery. Until 11, no rush.

Salt water, loungers in the shade and a light lunch by the pool until 3 pm. All around, the garden: date palms, agaves and a green gate that opens towards the sea.

The garden

Bordighera is the town of palms. Ours are more than a hundred years old and shade the whole afternoon.

The spa in the lemon house

The glasshouse where the lemon trees once spent the winter is now a small spa: a warm pool, a steam bath and massages on request.

The villa is a good place to start from: France is twenty minutes away, the hill villages a quarter of an hour.

In early 1884 Claude Monet spent almost three months in Bordighera. He painted more than thirty canvases: nearly always, the palms.

When the sun touches the sea, the candles are lit. The cooking is from the western Riviera: fish of the day, Taggiasca olives, herbs from the hills.
